Rochambeau

Client: Rochambeau
Services: Art Direction, Visual Identity

Rochambeau is a neo-bistro in Boston’s Back Bay. The highly anticipated café, restaurant, and bar comes to the neighborhood courtesy of the Lyons Group. The two-story venue is home to a spacious all-day café, a seasonal outdoor patio, and a French brasserie serving brunch, lunch, and dinner. When tasked to develop an identity around this concept, the solution was to combine playful, modern typography with classic motifs found in and around French cafes. A hand-drawn primary logo paired with typography that avoids conventional regular/bold relationships creates a visual contrast that feels familiar yet unexpected. A tightly controlled color palette picks up on shades within the space to create a seamless experience and relies on contrast to emphasize messaging within the restaurant. Lastly, quotes from famous French luminaries make an impactful branding moment that brings life and some humor to Rochambeau’s visual identity. Let’s French!
